lohri 2020

In Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, and Haryana every 13th of January means the day of Lohri. Celebrated with great pomp, Lohri is a festival for worshipping fire.

As Lohri marks fertility, it is very important for newborns and newlyweds. The event also means the end of winter and the beginning of the harvest season in Punjab region. People come together to the bonfire to dance and sing around it and throw popcorn in the flames. They also pray for prosperity, abundance, as well as for a good harvest. The festival is often celebrated in a family circle with a lavish dinner, necessarily including jaggery, gachak, nuts, and radish.
